The design, supply, installation and commissioning of a manually operated tool exchange system.
the solution
The tool exchange system was designed to remove a 1.5Tonne PU Foam tool from a PU Foam press. The press’s pendulum bed arrangement moves up and away from the base, giving rise to a complex tool change configuration due to very confined access points to the bed. Overcoming these issues necessitated a number of machine modifications including modifications to the light guarding, operator access and a dual drive tool change mechanism to avoid remaining machine base obstructions.
The system was successfully commissioned and left the press not only with an effective tool change system, but with improved operator access, reduced trip and access hazards and improved maintenance access. The tool change system produced a change over time for tooling of around thirty minutes against the previous two hour slot allowed for specialised rigging with manning and forklift access.
